The Swiss population and economy are exposed to a range of natural hazards. While floods, hail and storms cause great economic damage, natural disasters such as avalanches, landslides and rockslides lead to deaths. More than 95 per cent of all buildings and movable property in Switzerland are insured against natural perils. In order to better diversify risks, several insurance companies have joined forces in the Natural Hazards Pool (NH Pool).
The annual report of the natural hazards pool shows that private natural hazards insurance has also proven its worth even in major events concentrated in specific local areas.
