In 2023, Swiss pri­vate in­sur­ers’ pre­mi­um vol­ume once again ex­pe­ri­enced pleas­ing growth, ac­cord­ing to FINMA fig­ures.

The in­sur­ance mar­ket is high­ly com­pet­i­tive. 2023 saw rough­ly 194 pri­vate in­sur­ers com­pete for the favour of pol­i­cy­hold­ers across five in­sur­ance branch­es.

Pri­vate in­sur­ers in most branch­es record­ed a mod­er­ate in­crease in pre­mi­um vol­umes in 2022, ac­cord­ing to the SIA’s pro­jec­tions.

For Switzer­land as a busi­ness lo­ca­tion, rein­sur­ers are im­por­tant risk car­ri­ers, cap­i­tal providers and tax­pay­ers that make a sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tion to ser­vice ex­ports.

The im­por­tance of rein­sur­ers to the Swiss econ­o­my grows every year. This is main­ly be­cause Switzer­land of­fers at­trac­tive con­di­tions for lo­cat­ing here.
