Earthquake

Earthquakes are rare in Switzerland, but they carry enormous damage potential. Every 50 to 150 years, an earthquake with a magnitude of around 6.0 occurs in Switzerland. Insurance penetration is steadily increasing but remains at a low level. Things look better in the canton of Valais, where around 50 per cent of building values are insured against earthquake risks.
