Natural hazards, cyber-attacks and the sharp rise in mental illness all demonstrate the importance of sustainable insurance solutions for the economy and society. At Insurers’ Day in St. Gallen, representatives from business, politics and science discussed how risks can be kept sustainable and affordable in the future. Stefan Mäder has been confirmed for a second term as Chairman of the SIA. Mirjam Bamberger, Patric Deflorin and Peter Giger were newly elected to the Board of Directors.

An insurable and well-insured Switzerland is a prosperous Switzerland. Private insurers make an indispensable contribution to this.

The Swiss insurance industry saw a 2.7 per cent increase in premium volumes for non-life business in 2021 compared with the previous year. The life insurance business, on the other hand, once again experienced a decline in premiums since financial year 2020, although individual life insurance policies actually rose by 3.2 per cent. The market for reinsurers has grown by an average of 5.5 per cent in Switzerland over the last 10 years.
