In Switzerland, 205 insurance companies hold a FINMA license. FINMA also acts as the supervisory authority for these companies. 156 of these companies are Swiss, 49 of them are branch offices of foreign companies.
In Switzerland, 205 insurance companies hold a FINMA license. FINMA also acts as the supervisory authority for these companies. 131 insurers are active in property and casualty insurance, 19 are life insurers and 55 are in the reinsurance business. 26 of the latter are captives.
FINMA adopts a principles-based, risk-oriented approach to its supervision of insurance companies. The greater the risk potential of an insurance company, the more intensive the supervision. Further information can be found on the FINMA web site.
