The coro­n­avirus pan­dem­ic has af­fect­ed the in­di­vid­ual in­sur­ance lines to dif­fer­ent de­grees over the past year.

In this ex­tra­or­di­nary year, the in­sur­ance in­dus­try paid out an es­ti­mat­ed to­tal of CHF 1 bil­lion in claims to pol­i­cy­hold­ers in Switzer­land in the con­text of loss­es re­lat­ed to Covid-19.

The Swiss In­sur­ance As­so­ci­a­tion SIA wel­comes the Fed­er­al Coun­cil’s up­dat­ed fi­nan­cial cen­tre strat­e­gy, pub­lished on 4 De­cem­ber 2020.

The SIA un­der­stands what the ini­tia­tors want to achieve but be­lieves that it is the wrong way for­ward due to its un­clear con­se­quences for Switzer­land as a busi­ness lo­ca­tion.
